Kalavantin Durg:

Kalavantin Durg also known as Prabalgad, which was constructed in honour of Queen Kalavantin. Offering gorgeous views and abundant beauty with narrow rock-cut steps, steep slopes and no support whatsoever – the trek to and from the fortress.

A trek to this place is perfect for those who enjoy adventure and jaw-dropping views and beautiful scenery on the way up make the trek all the more worthwhile. Kalavantin Fort is famed as the ‘Climb to Heaven’, owing to its beautiful nature and the bird’s eye view of the immense beauty that await atop.

Karnala Fort:

Karnala is a quaint fort overlooking a sprawling bird sanctuary. Situated along the Mumbai-Goa highway, it is at a distance of about 10 km from the city of Panvel. The Karnala Fort trek begins at the entrance of the bird sanctuary on a well-defined road and winds through the forest. Eventually, it leads to an uphill track under thick vegetation.

There are multiple routes inside the sanctuary that lead to the main trail up to the mountain and offer a variety of fauna, both in enclosure and in the wilderness. The trek to the top is a little challenging but thoroughly enjoyable and the fort provides a comfortable perch to rest and have lunch.

Karnala Bird sanctuary:

A little away from the Mumbai-Pune Expressway is the Karnala Bird Sanctuary filled with species of both flora and fauna that are sure to astound you. Karnala Sanctuary is popular among bird watchers as well as hikers who want to get away from the busy urban jungles of their cities.

Located around the Karnala Fort the sanctuary also has an added historic attraction besides being a wonderful weekend getaway for hikers, picnickers and of course, bird lovers. The Karnala Pinnacle is the area where the endangered birds are kept, such as the peregrine falcon, crested serpent eagle and king vulture.

Gadeshwar Dam:

A beautiful dam situated near panvel is surrounded by green hills and paddy fields. It is not too far from Mumbai city. Good place to visit if you live in Navi-Mumbai and in seek of a short one day trip close to nature. The dam itself is quite magnificent, located just 15 mins away from panvel Railway Station, and the view from this spot is just spectacular. Unlike some other dams this one is not overly crowded, so you can relax and unwind without jostling for space. The Best time to visit Gadeshwar dam is monsoons. This place is best for trekking, bird watching and some quiet time. The stunning lake is near from Hotel Veer park at Panvel.

Zenith waterfall:

The tarmac just after Panvel up to Khopoli is plain fabulous.The falls can be seen from the highway – a thousand meter high rock-face with umpteen water falls off its face.

If the mention of a Waterfall evokes childhood memories of standing under clear, gushing water, the sounds of water ferociously falling from a great height, making you heart skip a beat, then you are bound to feel pleased at Zenith waterfalls. A railway bridge high up in the rock fold is also visible. A small hike across a stream gets you to the base of the fall.
